All About Pocket Knives

I picked this up today at a antique mall. I bought it for the celluloid handles. It was marked $6.00 and I got it for $5.00. When I got out to the car I started looking at it closer, and could'nt see any tang markings. But on top of the tang its marked TESTED XX. Looking at the tang with a magnifing glass I can make out CASE BROTHERS LITTLE VALLEY N.Y. It does not have a pin thru the bottom of the handles. It has come apart there. Where these originaly glued? What kind of glue did they use back in that time period on celluloid? Super glue would fix it but would'nt be the correct repair. Just wondering what should be used.

$5.00 great score, everything about this piece is right on the money, you do not see a stamping because case utilized a lot of etch markings for that period so the lack of a stamp is no surprise although having the etch is a big plus and it does effect value. The handles are imitation horn handles. Personally, I would not do anything with the handles, but if you were to re-glue only use a very small amount of super glue, just enough to hold it, that should work fine. We have 2 like this in out vault, I really like the look of the handles. Value, without an etch I would expect to see 65-100 with a good etch 100-200 or more depending on overall condition. Very nice find at a great price, it always a good idea to look twice and pay once.

IIRC the were molded together, that's what I've seen on alot of razors (not case) I agree that a tiny drop of superglue would suffice

As stated we have 2 razors identical to this one. here is a photo from Sargents 4th (botton photo) showing no bottom pin with the same handle material. At the time case had line etchs and arch etchs with the arch being the more valuable. the top photo is genuine horn case brothers tested XX little valley arch etch hollow point, the bottom immitation handles case brothers little valley arch etch hollow point. slightly different but same time frame so no logical reason not to have a tested xx blade on an immitation handle. I stand by my read three thumbs up.

These are 'common enough' [assorted handles] in PA, NY and I'd guess Ohio to be found for about $15.00 or so, sometimes with box.

Savage you are correct, these razors can be found in the PA, NY and Oh areas on occasion, I would have to believe that they are much more common in these sates as compared to Nevada or the Dakotas but they are not as common as you suggest . Etch marking are much more rare than stamped markings , and some etches more rare than others, look at any of the reference materials available. If you get lucky at a yard sale or auction you can still pick one up for a great deal but if someone knows what it is they have 100 or more on it.

They are not “That common” Tested XX is much more common, but they both can be found, sometimes at a great deal.

I guess I disagree, well not disagree but something, because if I had bought all the antique CASE razors, etched or engraved or stamped, whatever, I've seen in the last few years in northern PA and NY I'd either be rich or broke or own a cigar box full of razors, [many in their original boxes] something I do not normally collect.
Refrences are great but 'hands on digging and research' tell the story in some areas.
No doubt a few people know prices and most antique stores do know but not everyone. I doubt I have seen a CASE razor over $50.00 in the past couple years and most were far below that.
And if anyone wonders' why not buy them and sell 'em? I don't sell anything, eBay is a zoo, just collect...and I don't collect razors.
And to be clear on this most all of these razors were used [a mint one would surprise me] and some had damage but they're out there.

Here a CASE Bros..Tested XX Little Valley N.Y. razor I took a photograph of TODAY after one ride this morning into PA! Price? Under $20.00. This one is stamped, not etched! It is also in vg condition with no chips, cracks etc, and the original celluoid is still on the thin part of the blade.
