Picked this 110 at the flea market. As I am relatively a anovice at all of this thought I would try dating and grading , and have someone with much more experience than I have tell me how I did. Tang stamp BUCK U.S.A. 110 no dots 2 rear and 1 front rivet pins, 2 small inlay rivet pins with a head , 1 stainless rocker rivet pin , with a head. Having a model number puts it between 72-86 , with no dots beside the model number makes it pre 74, so the year should be between 72 and 74. Which should make a Fifth version Variation 3. Knife has been carried, not abused, near full blade, has been sharpened and looks to have been cleaned. No wobble in the blade still has good snap when opening and locking , also while closing. No cracks in handle material. Scratches on bolster and spine. Would grade between very good and excellent. Looked at prices, and they were all over the place, so not really sure of a price. I used bucks date code chart , the updated 110 data sheet post, and the research on AAPK for the grading All of them very helpful. Let me know what you think , any and all comments are welcome, looking to learn.

I bought my first 110, BUCK back in the 70s. I didn't start collecting knives till the 2000s. A person who I thought was a friend, stole all of my Buck Knives and collectible knives, while I was in the Hospital, from 2006 - 2010.

Not an expert but I agree with your assessment. Macasar ebony would make it a variation three. I have one almost exactly like it.
