All About Pocket Knives

In the beginning , maybe 2006 or so , GEC had a 3 bladed stockman , California clip , spey , sheepsfoot , maybe a tad bigger than the calf roper , always wanted one , and never got around to getting it , one I especialy liked was called red wine bone I think ? anyone have any info on these ? cant remember the pattern number , if you have or know of one for sale ,PM me , dosent have to be red wine , but I loved that one , Thanks for any info , James .

It sounds like the #53 Cuban Stockman from 2008. Full pattern number 538308. Looks they made 19 of them.

I've got these two #53 Stockmans but I'm just using your thread to show them off. Neither one of them are for sale.

Was looking on the GEC web site. Looks like the early ones were on the 53 pattern.

I'm not 100% sure but I think those were only available to those who attended the 2008 Open House at the GEC factory. You had to buy one right there because they were never sent to the dealers. Kind of like an Open House Exclusive.

GEC has recently changed the term to "Rendezvous" instead of Open House and they offer Rendezvous knives at those events now.

GEC recently ran off the 66 Calf Roper with a standard stockman 3-blade configuration. There are still available at first-run dealers in bone, stag, wood and acrylic.

Thanks , the 53,s were a little bigger , and had a Cailifornia clip blade , I like the size of the 66 better , but would like the Cailif . blade better .

I hope you can acquire a 53 Stockman sooner or later, James. They are rather large and hefty but the in hand feel of the 4 1/8 inch equal end frame makes up for the extra bulk and weight in the pocket. If you ever get one in your hands you will know right away what I mean. They just feel great.

Another nice feature of the 53 Stockman is that the nail nick on the Sheepsfoot blade is accessible from the mark side. You don't have to flip the knife around to open that blade like you have to on most Stockman patterns.

The blades also ride pretty low when closed compared to some other Stockman patterns and although the joints aren't sunken, they aren't far from it. Really nice knives.

James, I'll echo what everyone else is saying about the 53 is the pattern you are looking for based on the "California" clip description you provided and the year you are recollecting. GEC also make a 4 inch serpentine frame 3 blade stockman in the 81 pattern. It is called the Abilene stockman. Here is a picture for reference - not for sale. So far, I believe this pattern has been released in 2013 only. The 2 blade variant of the 81 is called a Coon Skinner and it has 2 (what I would call) California clip blades.

Just passing this info along in case you need something else to look for while waiting a on 53 hit the market

Thanks all, ill watch Ebay some and maybe one will pop up , like to have one in 1095 , hopefully one of the red wine ones will show up , they might have been the Tidioute in that color, cant remember ? ill post in the classified section too .

Yep, it was the Tidioutes that were made in Red Wine Jigged Bone in 2008. Hope someone comes forward with an offer. With only 19 of Red Wines made you'll have a real gem on your hands if you can snag one.
