All About Pocket Knives

I just got this knife. Clip blade is tang stamped with the CASE TESTED XX on the front and the back side has been opened so much there is nothing there. Is this a true "CASE" knife? There is no shield. Don,t know if the handles are stag or none, the back handle is perfect. Could some one use this as a parts knife?

It looks like a legit Case Tested XX 6265 to me. It maybe has been apart based on the visibile and protruding(?) bolster pin.

This configuration is unusual, but not wrong in my opinion. I can't speak directly to what Case might have done specifically just for the 65 pattern... However, in general, Case did make Tested knives with iron bolsters, iron liners, and without shields on knives produced around WW I and later around WW II. I have heard speculation the use of iron (rather than nickel silver) was due to materials shortages (nickel) due to the war effort.

As an example, here is a Case Tested XX 6394 with iron bolsters, iron liners, and no shield. I believe this example dates from around 1920 and is a Bradford to Tested transition knife. My reason for this belief is because all of the blades are marked along with the iron components and no shield.

I meant to respond to this earlier. Case Tested XX knives are almost always NOT marked on the back of the tang. When they are marked it would be the pattern number. Here is a single blade version (Case Tested XX 6165) of your knife that is stamped on the back of the blade.

Yes they did. Knife looks 100% right to me.

Would that make for a "more" collectible knife? Or is it just left aside as a less sought after production period...
