All About Pocket Knives

I thought this is the right area as is whittling I've wanted to make new handles for my MOD type knife for years,I've used this as a camp knife for a long time and it's become a trusted knife, I removed the guard ages ago as gets in my way. I'm not sure what wood I used as I picked it up ages ago but it's pretty hard but the Imperial schrades coping blade performed faultlessly, plus comfy to use, I've photographed the process, I'm very happy with the handles and I just need nicer bolts and Finnish the backside to make them more flush but they look nice,I'm going to do some of my Sak's and Mora #1 next

Thanks phill I've just planed the backs flushed so they fit better,just need better fixings and glue them on,I'm just putting another coat of stain on both sides

Nice work, Zed! Can you tell us how the handle attachment to the blade is done? I see a Phillips head screws on the one side so what's going on the other side? You mentioned nicer bolts? Also what wood is that? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks guys for all the kind words this has been a fun project ,as for what wood I've no clue it was picked up ages ago,probably my youngest picked it up it's pretty hard wood but nice to carve,at the moment it's just got 3 screws holding it together for now ,I want allen type bolts with recessed nut on oposite side,preferably in black, plus I'll epoxy the handles on I'll post pics as I do it

Very nice work Zed! I have used a small ball mill bit in a Foredom die grinder to repair some jigged bone handles.It simulates jigging very well and could likely be used to make longer striations to simulate stag. I also have one old Woodcraft pattern hunter by Olcut that has simulated stag handles made of wood. Here is a picture of it.

Here are some closeup shots of handles I did on clear Lexan. The knife originally had shell handles.You can get a really nicely controlled pattern by holding the Dremel parallel to the surface rather than at 90 degrees.
