This is how I fix my mistakes

Remember the little lockback with the piano key ivory?

Not realizing that there issues causing the blade to bind I had to take it apart. I tried to save the handles but a chunk broke off... so, I did this:
I fixed the binding issues and replaced the walnut handles with some Elk. Needs more sanding and then some polishing. Like I use to hear as a kid, "When life hands you lemons,make lemon aid!" Its gonna be a good one! Function is good and the lock up is solid
Now that that is almost done I still have enough ivory to do about six of these in walnut with the ivory stripe. Check back to see the final outcome

QS, Brumbydownunder, Jerry and Scott thanks guys! I was a bit unhappy when the first handle broke.
But this is making me smile again!
"That's using your head for something besides a hat rack (as my mother would have said)" Jerry my Mom used to say that as well. Come to think of it I used to say that to my kids as well!

Here are the latest pics.
I thought I might be done until I took her out in the sun. Looks like the bolster and the pins need a tiny bit more work. Turning out nice
I rubbed in two coats of Walker Wax into the Elk. What do you think? Put 2 drops of Teflon based lube on the pivot and man is she slick! Makes that satisfying snick opening and closing

Yep Greg I agree, I loved that walnut&ivory. Almost brought me to tears when the walnut broke driving the pivot pin out... But now that I know what to expect, there's one coming! And it has your name on Buddy!

Nice save Randy. It's hard to go wrong with stag.
Were you able to save the ivory from the damaged handles ?

No.. I tried but no go... On the other hand I can still do six of these little knives. You live, you learn. And the function this time is slick. I have been sitting in front of the tv opening it and closing it. Snick, snick, snick
