All About Pocket Knives

I'd like to hear opinions from those who work on knives if this is a repair that can be done.

The knife is a Sword Brand, has nice crack free bone handles and a pretty full blade.

The bad news is a cracked backspring. I'd like to be able to use it but maybe I should
just leave it as is. Click on pic's to inlarge.

Only my 2 cents worth. I would use the knife as is. It may last a week or 5 years - who know? If it snaps you can have it fixed for $35 or so. Looks like a keeper.

Of course the knife can be repaired as is. There is a small chance the bone would crack, but that is a common repair. Those springs on a Frank Buster knife snapped like banjo strings.

Has no snap at all on the main blade and very little on the second.

Does the knife need to be disassembled to replace the spring ?

Very possibly the blades have wallowed divots out on the spring. I think that is a double end spring and you can shear the center pin and the spring will come out. May be a case where a new spring is needed and the blades may have to be welded up to get snap back in the blades. There are posts in the forum about that very subject. Kaleb fixed a Remington knife for me that needed a new spring and he also welded up the blades and got snap back into them. He did a nice job.

If the tangs are still in good shape which is likely if the spring is broken, only the center pinn need be removed for the repair

Nice knife and definitely worth repairing. The knife does not have to be taken apart to be repaired. Having the original spring to use as a pattern for a new spring is a big help. Finding an original spring in a parts knife is also a possibility. Someone out there (a repairman) might have an original.

Thanks to everyone for your response, I'm having a new spring installed and bring this knife back to life !
