All About Pocket Knives

I was cleaning my garage the other day and found this old Scout Knife. It looked like it was rusted into one piece and I started to toss it in the scrap metal bin. Then I took a closer look and thought it might not be all that bad. The blades pulled out, maybe it was just the handles that were shot. I jumped on the computer to see if I could find what I had. It's a 4 line address on one side of the blade and crossed swords on the other. I started coming up with a plan. The handles almost fell off and it started to look better. I hit the blade with 150 grit and it started looking better. The plan is to make new handles out of Spalted Maple or maybe Black Locust, inlay the ScoutKnife escutcheon, and polish the metal up to 1500-2000 grit and see how bright I can get it to shine. Hope you don't look down on restoring/changing the original. I thought it was a goner, I hope to bring it back, Joe.

Sounds like you have a great save project going. Hope you can post some pictures for us.

Joe it sounds like a Camillus Sword Brand Scout knife from 1941-46. You should be able to post pictures. There is no restriction for number of posts. View how to post pics in the AAPK tips and tricks forum.

Joe you can't post from photo bucket here the pic must be stored on the device you are posting from.

Thanks Greg, I have to remember how to get my pics from my cell to my computer, I used to do it that way. I have an app on my phone that uploads to PB. I think I can just hook the phone up with a usb and open a new folder, just haven't done it that way in a while. But, I am persistent, Joe.

The reason for this Joe is if the photo bucket account is deactivated the the picture will disappear from our pages
and we want to keep all pics for posterity.

Joe, that's pretty cool! Bringing an old knife back to life is always very satisfying. Glad you are showing the project's progress.

Thanks for the welcome guys. If you want to see projects, I got projects. This one is so little it jumped ahead of the others. I collect chainsaws over 100 CC's, double bit axes, pre-war Model 1899 savages, and my namesake 68 Cuda. I use rarefish383 because I have a 68 Formula S Barracuda convertible, 383, 4spd. The big block was a one year only option in the rag top A bodies and they only made 64 of them. The last time I checked the Mopar registry there were 12 left known to exist. So, it's a rare fish, Joe.

Oh, and I have a Camillus Cat Fish Hunter folding knife #0548. I bought 5 of them at Best Company and gave them to the Groomsmen in my wedding, kept one for myself. I used mine for years and it shows, tip broke. Also have several Barlows, a couple linoleum folders. I'm sure if I go through my knife drawer I'll find more. Have a bunch of store brand knives that may be Camillus rebadged, Joe.

I was just looking at the list of other brands that Camillus made. My Hopalong Cassidy is an Imperial Prov RI. Is that one of their rebadges? I paid $10 for it about 40 years ago, Joe.

If that scout knife were mine I'd consider putting some rams horn handles on it. (Did I say I have a thing for RAMS HORN ?)

Philco, I have a sawmill, what kind of tree does that stuff grow on Actually, I do have some Goat Horn, but I'm still leaning toward the Black Locust, Joe.

I haven't transferred many pics from PB to my computer yet. I guess I could change the name of this thread to "Joe's Projects". Here are a few of my axes, American Beauty, Collins, True Temper Kelly Perfect, and a couple Plumbs, Joe.
