So my Mom gave me her old crayon box

She wasn't thinking like a knife collector in the 30s (although she did accumulate a pretty good pile of beat up hand me downs as a kid). It's lucky she didn't test more colors on the lid. I don't think there's any way to get the crayon off, but I don't think I would if I could. Anyway I'm pretty tickled to have it in any condition.

Bruce - Priceless! The only thing you might think about doing is adding the knife dividers and purple flocked lining - if you need pictures of an unblemished original PM me. Anything handed down from family is precious, but from mom, that's truly priceless, congratulations.
A short story on the same wavelength.....my brother and I were cleaning out my parents house after my dad died in 2007. After months we had the house empty and just a few piles in the garage. When the house sold we walked through one last time before going to the closing. Their attic had a floor that didn't extend all the way to the roof joists exposing some of the insulation to the ceiling below the attic. The attic was empty but I decided to fish around where the floor ended and I found a cigar box. In the cigar box was my mother's Girl Scout memorabilia including a Utica in the box. I never even knew my mother was in the Girl Scouts! You can imagine my surprise. It's one of my most prized possessions.
Enjoy your find but keep the crayons away.

That's awesome Bruce. Having items passed down through the family is a great way to keep the spirit alive. Any way to date it? That would be neat to find out about when it was made.

Although I wouldn't want to remove the crayon marks either if you did what I would try doing is using a hair dryer(or a commercial heat gun set on low)to soften the crayon and then use an old plastic credit card to gently scrape it away. Neat old box!

Wow Bruce that's super cool

Especially since it was your Mother's. Even if it wasn't it would be quite the find!
