All About Pocket Knives

Daves new book is quit interesting and very well written. For those new to collecting that has an interest in collecting the old timers or would like to know more about cutlery history or for the seasoned collector, this book is a MUST READ. Surprising and interesting facts fill this book, from the inception of many knife companies, not just Tidioute companies, to the merger, acquisition and demise of many important cutlery companies that have contributed so much to the history of cutlery in America. I have to admit that this is one of the best reference books to collecting that I have ever came across, although I do not think it was intended that way exactly, I have a feeling that many, many people will be referencing this book for years to come. The history of some of the lesser known companies is brought into the light due to their relationship to Tidioute, and speaking of relationships the cutlery business was very much something of a family affair as noted throughout the book. I don’t want to rehash what Dave has so eloquently put in the book so like the Nike commercial…just do it. three thumbs up

P.S. I have read the book cover to cover, despite alot of drool on the some of the photos.

I received my copies last Friday and finished it on Sunday.All the info and history is more than worth the price. Great job David What do you plan on doing for an encore? Two thumbs up my freind

Ok Charlie, I'm trying to imagine you sitting on the ground outside the Post Office allowing your feet to hang over and dangle... But for the life of me I can't figure out how your feet are hanging over and dangling since your on the ground...

I haven't completed the book yet but can tell that a tremendous amount of research has went into the book. I can't imagine how much effort was made to obtain all of that information that as far as I know is not available anywhere else. I think this is a book that I will refer to often as I learn more about knives.
Thanks David for all of the effort. I hope you make money but as much information as you have obtained it may have to make the best sellers list for you to break even.

Thanks guys for your kind words. It did take a lot of research that throughly enjoyed doing. About four years to be percise. When I called Brad Lockwood to ask for help in reseach his first question was "how much money do you think you can make on this?" I said I don't plan on making anything. He then said that yes he would help me knowing my goals.

He recieves calls quite often from people thinking they can make money with knife books. WRONG, he only agreed to help after I said money wasn't the driving force.

I seriously doubt that I brake even, but that's OK as I didn't do it for that reason. I loved the process and the story even more so. I get a real thrill when I recieve a call or e-mail saying that they never knew about this or that and thank me for finding the info. Knife people are so kind and love to learn more about the who what when where and why's of the business. I hope everyone enjoys reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. It taught me way more than anyone who hasn't attempted such a process can imagine.

Yes it is expensive to do, I have passed on many knives knowing I needed money for the book. People like Galvanic 1882 showed me so much kindness during this process. Mike is a great friend and very up on old knives.

Just finished my first read of PA's book.
Great stuff! The stories behind the cutleries, and the hints of what business was like in those old days is entertaining and enlightening!
I will come back here when I read it again.
