Spanish american war corp man knife?

Post by montemojo »

This knifes edge is beveled on one side. The tang is marked U S model 1917 on one side and marked plumb phila 1918 on the other side of the tang. Does anyone have any info on this?

One of my favorite sources for military knives-

Hope this helps!

Monte,
Google Bolo, Plumb 1917, there's a bunch of 'em for sale and they ain't exactly cheap. ::tu:: There is some history, used during WWI and WWII, there are even reproductions being made. That sure is a healthy lookin' blade.

WW1 Bolo also saw quite a bit of use in WW2. Definitely not a Spanish American War or a Corpman bolo. Still fairly common and easy to find, Plumb made a lot of them.

I think these were issued to machine gun crews in WW1 for clearing brush. Of course they were used for other things and beyond WW1 but I think that was their original purpose.
