Camaco 229 Mod in interior Moose antler

Well I got bored yesterday ::hmm:: and since I had some Moose antler already cut for a TL-29 rehandle I thought that I would use them on this Camillus 229. I eliminated the screwdriver and put it all back together, The antler was edge cut so that I use the interior portion. I have fallen in love with interior cuts of Whitetail stag so I thought I would try Moose. I like how turned out. ::nod:: Thoughts?

The first two pics show the donor antler in the background. I just sliced a couple slabs off of it. Trimmed it to shape.

That’s interesting Randy, I think I like it. It is definitely a different look from the exterior antler. Well executed also! ::tu::
How did you color the antler?
Did you have to use anything to stabilize the interior? I know sometimes the carrier of antler is a little pithy and not as hard as the outer layers. I’m just wondering if you use CA or something like that to stabilize.

Dale the color was something that I have been playing with. I like the brown colors that potassium permanganate brings to the game but I also like a little gray shading once in while. The first time I buffed a piece of antler with a dirty buff bob I found that I like the result. So I saved my old dirty buff wheels.

I added some green compound to a old dirty buff and loaded the antler full until it looked like it had a black greasy coating on it. Then I used a clean rag and carefully wiped all of excess off and finished with a clean buff bob. Gave it one heck of a shine!

No C/A this time. The above finish is all there is. The scales are sealed on the back. I used Go2 glue to seal and attach the scales before pinning. Thats about it.
