All About Pocket Knives

Looking back you just might hear him say things like that.
I know my boys come over looking to see what I also got for them, but the knives stay here....

I posted this in the Introduction forum (and very prod of my words I used).
I would just like you to add some feeling of yours to WHY WE COLLECT KNIVES....

I can honestly say I don't know why i collect knives. I have never understood the attraction to knives, bordering on obsession. I would say I have a knife in my hand 85% of the time. Opening, closing, twirling it in my fingers at the doctors office. I use it everyday, every chance i get. Though i dont know why, i find it very relaxing and enjoyable. Well, maybe that is reason enough

I just like knives. I don't know why?

Because its more fun than putting the money in my 401K

the reason it do is because. buying and keeping certain knives is better than money in the bank drawing interest.

I just like sharp pointy things. I also sorta collect axes and hatchets.

I'm with useem...I'm an obsessive/compulsive guy and having knives and thinking about my next knife gives me something to obsess over that is pleasant.

An obsession that is a pleasant distraction beats the hell out of obsessing over work, or money, or world hunger, or global warming, or a lot of other bad stuff I'm sure everybody has in their lives.

My theory.

Actually they fill an elemental need that a human has to be ready for anything; war, drought, the plague, you name it. Humans need to hoard stuff for hard times. Food, money, knives, wives, blankets, knives, fuel, and did I mention knives?? I said wives but I meant knives. You get the idea; now GO BUY A KNIFE!! . . . . . . . . . . . .Just in case!!!

I collect knives because my other hobbies, running dogs, chasing women, and drinking beer , are too dang expensive. At least with knife collecting you can buy a knife for 80.00 and sell it for 50.00, that way you just lose 30.00. The other hobbies are a total loss.

I collect knives because,


#1.) Some day my Sons & Daughters will be able to pick one of them up & say, "Wow, check this one out! My Dad was a knife collector & this is a special piece that was in his collection!"

#2.) I have something to show for my hard earned money & it brings the passion out in myself!

#3.) It keeps me in the hobby that I love so much & close to the true friends one could ever find in a life time that are all over this World!

#4.) It gives me a new sense of character!

I love watching something being put together, all the work and skill that goes into creating something out of nothing requires a lot of talent, to see it done RIGHt is gratifying to me on some basic level. To see the end result of a labor that requires skill and dedication is gratifying. When I hold a well made knife in my hand and study it I can see the effort and the craftsmanship that has gone into it. The aesthetics are pleasing, much like studying a beautiful and well put together female form. Hell it's almost erotic in some weird way. I guess it appeals to the perfectionist in me. Studying a knife blade and looking to find some flaw and NOT finding it is appealing as hell. Conversely, finding a flaw kind of validates my existence, "see, there's a flaw right there! hell, i can be flawed now without having to worry too much about it". Weird I know but that's as close as i can come to explaining it

I have always been around guns and knives but just lately have started learning about and collecting knives. I guess, since I'm older,and I'd like to think a LITTLE smarter,I've slowed down a lot and take the time to appreciate them.And of course I just like the looks of them,especially the stag handles
