All About Pocket Knives

I have an antique case knife that I inherited from my great grand father. I know some of the vintage case knives can be valuable. However, there are too many models and types for me to make a proper identification. This is a 3 blade knife with what appears to be mother of pearl scales. On the tang is printed "Case Bros" and underneath it states "Little Valley." The reverse tang states "Tested XX." I did the best I could with the photos but they are not very clear. If anyone can identify and give an approximate value it would be greatly appreciated. J529A

Welcome to AAPK. You have an old and fairly rare knife. The mother-of-pearl handles are indicative of a higher priced knife when it was new, so the number produced would be typically fewer than a lower priced pattern, and of those that were made, few have survived.

Case Brothers built a factory in Little Valley, N.Y. in the year 1900. The factory burnt to the ground in 1912 and was never re-opened in Little Valley. That pretty much dates your knives those years, so it's over a hundred years old. Your knife is a "whittler" pattern which was very popular at the time it was made, so several variations were made in different sizes, handle materials and blade styles. What is the closed length of your knife?

3529A, is the knife 3 3/4 inches closed? It looks like it could be a 55 pattern and because it is has 3 blades and pearl handles it would be a 8355.

Thanks to all of you for the responses. The two small blades on this knife are also stamped on the tang. Both small blades are approximately the same size. On one blade with the slightly larger tang it reads "Case Bros" then underneath "Little Valley NY". The smaller tang reads "Case Bros". The knife measures 3 and 3/4 inches closed.

You should be very proud to own that piece of history...an heirloom really.
