Greg has sent me this 72 to be handled. He had already sent me two other knives to re-handle. A Case sodbuster and a Case Tested fixed blade. The case scales had been repaired and Greg wanted them replace with amber stag

After looking at the old scales I found that there was enough good material to re-handle a Camillus 72 and I knew that he had one that needed repair so... I contacted Greg and let him know what I was thinking. So here we go!

The first thing that I did was remove the rocker pin after compressing the back springs.

Then I cut the pivot pins and finished disassembling.

Next step, cleaning up the parts.

Now I need to cut and fit the new "old" scales. Stay tuned! I'll take more pics as I go along. This 72 should look right nice with new covers.

Got a late start today.... My brother lives next door to me and he had seen a couple of coyotes near by for a couple of days. One almost made a snack out of my cat the other day. Today my brother was upset because his cat did not come home. So I spent a good part of the morning helping him find the cat, which was a success. Cat is fine. Its real wet around these parts. My boots are drying and I got a good start on this 72! Those old Case scales have been fitted between the bolsters and looks pretty good! Just need to thin them a bit and shape them to the liners!

This going well and I think will look real sweet. I'll post more pics after I make some more progress! Hope you like it so far Greg!

"I'll call that one my Cam-Case 72. :D"

I like it Greg! Scales are glued and drying as I type! 24 hours to cure then its time to shape the scales to the liners and re-assemble!

Here is where we are at at the moment. I just finished pinning the scales! Now you can get an idea of how The Cam-Case ( Not to be confused with the sod buster, which is a Camel-Case  ) 72 is coming along!

I cant wait to see how the final finish will look! :D

Well here is the mock up. Been at this most of the day!

Now you can get a better idea of how this 72 is going to look! The closer it gets to being done the nicer it looks. Next step is to take it apart and do some finishing work. Polishing and slicking up the friction points and put her back together. Then the real work starts! The final sand and polish! Tomorrow looks to busy around here. At the moment it likes Thursday I'll spend the day finishing this 72.

I set this down about an hour ago. Planned on stopping for the day. So I picked up the 72 just now to admire the way it has come along and what do I see ::undecided:: These cracks. Did not even wait to be peined before it cracked. I guess that Case bone was drier than it looked, cause it sure looked nice. If any of the other knife mechanics are following please share your opinions. For now the plans are to use some zap a crack and go ahead and finish pinning it together. Don't want to pull the rocker pin now, afraid it make the cracks worse... ::shrug::

Hey Greg! I'll let you decide for your self on the Cam-Case72. Check out the pics and let me know what your thoughts are on this. But I am going to declare this a save! I am glad that I decided to finish it without taking it back apart because it came out nice! If you look real hard you can see the cracks around the rocker pin, but the C/A zap a crack worked better than I thought it could.

That being said I still wish that could have taken it apart to slick up the friction points. When this 72 was in its youth it was used without much lube. This left some gall marks and rough spots that I would have like to address. All things considered I am very pleased ::tu:: Hope will will be as well Greg!

Edit: You'll have to hold in hand to see the cracking that bothered me. Its hard to see in the pics.

Thanks guys! You know the more I look at it the more it has that pocket worn look to it. Pocket worn Case green bone on a Camillus 72... Who would a thought? ::groove::
