All About Pocket Knives

Hello,

My name is Mr. Stafford and I am from S.E. Michigan. I have always loved the different types of traditional knives. As a boy, I coveted almost every one I saw being used and carried by the men around me; my grandfather, my father, my teachers, my scout leaders. One of the most exciting moments of my childhood was when my father gave me one of his Imperial slipjoints.

I am now in my 40's and have finally decided to make the time to begin to learn about repairing and restoring old traditional knives. I am still a neophyte, as I have not begun to do any repairs yet. I am looking forward to learning from the wealth of knowledgeable members here and, hopefully, making a few new friends.

Howdy, Mr. Stafford to AAPK. You've come to the right place to learn about pocket knives. Root around in the forum and you'll find all sorts of interestin' tutorials that explain what's goin' on and then if there are questions, there are usually folks more than willing to answer most any question!

Hi Dave,

I haven't focused on one brand in particular as of yet, but I am primarily interested in older ones; the older the better. I can't find the one my father gave to me, but I remember that it was an Imperial.

I was born in Michigan, but most of my family is from Minnesota; mostly around Minneapolis. If you know any Huycks, I'm probably related to them.

Are you looking for the exact knife from your father or one to replace it with? If you are trying to replace it with another just like it, do you remember what style it was or how many blades it had? Imperials generally aren't an expensive knife, and they made some really good knives early on. They got to be a very inexpensive knife in their hollow (shell) handle days around 1950's and 60's.____Dave

I would like to buy the same knife. It was a Boy Scout knife from the 50's. I found a few that I am bidding on. I spent countless hours with that knife as a boy. We shared similarities to Guy Clark and his father's Randall knife.
