All About Pocket Knives

Hello,
I'm looking for guidance on repairing a knife and stumbled onto this board.

I have a 1935 patent date Case Tested XX hatchet knife. The spine has come loose. I can't figure out how it was attached. Does anyone have any insight?

Welcome to the forums Milo J Bloom! Are you a Bloom County fan? It appears that the central pivot pin for the back spring has sheared off. Carefully removing the old one and making and installing a new one should fix the problem. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself there are a number of people on this forum who are more than capable of repairing it.

Going to move this to the knife repair forum.

There are actually 2 pins that look to have sheared. The center pin and the keeper pin in the head end bolster. The keeper pin is made to give the spring enough slack to move when the blade is inserted but yet keep the spring from pivoting out of position when the ax head or blade is not in the handle. You will have to remove the remnants of the sheared pins before you can replace them.
