Hi all. I just thought I'd make my first (at least I think it is) posting. I don't have many knives and certainly can't be called a collector, however, I do like "hoarding" somewhat. I bought my first knives back in the late '70s and '80s. I bought a Schrade LB7, LB5,LB1 and an Old Timer fixed blade.

I really didn't like the LB7, so sold it and that's when I bought the LB5. I really liked that one as a pocket knife but in the '90s the lock back spring broke and I never got around to getting it fixed, so it sits rather forlorn in a drawer. The LB1 has a busted ring from my keys and I haven't used it for decades, so it sits beside it's bigger brother along side the Old Timer as well.

I just started to acquire new knives (shiny gadgets are my weakness), but as a semi retired old codger I won't/can't be spending a lot of money. I bought a combo pack of China made Bucks (Steel Ridge models 344 and 343)on sale at out local Canadian Tire store for $25 that are quite well made, as well as a SOG Fielder (which I really don't like that much). I also had to buy the obligatory Vantage small and large Select models and really like those. I have as my every day carry a SAK Recruit (on my key chain) and a small Gerber Bear Grylls compact Scout knife that I use to open heavy meat boxes as I am a butcher (for 43 years) and don't want to lose?break a more expensive knife.

I have lurked here for a few weeks as well as checked out a couple more "knife" forums, but have found this as a lot friendlier than the "bigger" sites. I can't guarantee that I will post much, but will comment when I have something worthwhile to add.

edit: I see it is my second posting.

Welcome Collin! I think you will come to enjoy this site. Hoarders abound here. Lots of knowledge and fun people too! Great to have you a board.

Hey colin!
I may have to pick a bone with you right off the bat ::stir:: . I don't think there are any "hoarders" when it comes to knives, you see those of us that aren't "collectors" are called "accumulators"! Now that we've got that settled ::welcome:: to AAPK ::handshake:: .
I know a little bit about butchers as my father-in-law has been a butcher for many years. He sold his custom kill operation years ago but still has a few special private customers he continues to process their cattle and venison. The best thing about this, he is 93 years old!
Look forward to reading you comments!
