All About Pocket Knives

Anyone know what is wrong with this knife, the answer in not subtle.

I don't know Hukk. Looks like a nice knife to me. I don't know anything about Bulldogs, but they look pretty good for the price. Do they all say hammer forged on the tang?

No, all the carbon steel say Hammer forged, maybe even the Surgical Inst. may, I have to look at some to be sure. Well, a lot of folks don't know Bulldogs, this is a BKC 1013 and it's in all of Parker Pocket Knife Guides that have the third generation to 1995. I guess that is a pretty fair hint.

Shouldn't the knife have a standing dog mark on tang if it's 1995?




Oops, I just read that standing dog stamp started in '96. My bad.

When did the doghead shield start?

Box is obviously a later version, but don't expect that is worth mentioning.

In my opinion if it is a prototype it should have a bowtie shield instead of the dogshead. That information is listed at the bottom of the section.

perhaps it's not a prototype, just one of the 84 produced. "prototypes" bring more money at auction. very grey area with no actual records. i could be way off base but it almost seems there are as many protos for sale as regular run knives, and not just buldogs.

Yep, it's not a prototype. The prototype has a number BKC 1025, because there were so many. A prototype from 1995 will have a Bulldog Bowtie shield and they had a reverse frosted pit bull etch. There was 7 knives and 30 sets for a total of 210 prototypes. According to the Pocket Knife Traders Guide this is not a proto, but a 1 of 84 production with a prototype engraving.

!995 was the last year of the two fighting dogs which changed to the standing dog in 1996. The Standing dog has some knives at the beginning of 2000. Then about mid 2000 they switched to the double dog head through 2003, the same year that they introduced the Seductress 3 1/8 inch Warncliffe Whittler, along with other Warncliffe whittlers. 2004 they went back to the original fighting dogs that was used in the first generation, but with a date, 2004. Not all models in 2004 got a date stamp, I have several 4 1/8 inch trappers with the fighting dogs, yet no date. But, the handles have materials (such as abalone shell, ivory, and apple coral) that weren't used in the third generation. I also have a pair of 3 1/2 inch Congress models with the 25 year shield, but have the wrong blades. They have 1995 blades, last year of the third generation but have the pair of fighting dogs along with that 25 year bar.

Interesting to collect a brand and then find a year with errors.
