All About Pocket Knives

I'm looking into (finally) upgrading to a foredom and was looking for opinions of those who have them, I am having a hard time deciding which one I want.

I was looking at this one but am still undecided.

Which handpieces down they come with?

I'll probably end up getting a #44 as an accessory too so I can use 1/4" shank burrs for my bowl carving

the second one doesn't come with a handpiece

ill probably go with the 2230, I think its a better deal since it comes with a handpiece already. Variable speed isn't a deal breaker for me since I always run my dremels wide open anyway. The low rpms worry me though.

I have an older S series Foredom and have used it extensively for at least 15 years now. I think I bought it from Jantz supply. One purchase I have never regretted. It has the flex shaft, 1/4" chuck and variable speed. I do like the variable speed foot control and wouldn't want to do without it. It's always on in my shop so I just have to step on the gas to make it go.

Muskrat man- Learn to use the low RPMs on both your Dremels and the Foredom.
While wide open may be desirable in some situations, I never run mine wide open.
The whole idea of the Foredom is to have much more torque, at the expense of speed.
I do most of my drilling with a Flex-shaft machine. I even have a couple of older Foredoms with a 3:1 gear reduction for even better control.

I like the higher rpm because they tend to "chatter" less for lack of a better term but can appreciate the higher torque of the foredom since the dremel gets bogged down on larger projects. Besides that the high rpms burn through bits faster because of heat buildup, most notably when removing pin heads and other small metal grinding tasks. I think I'll order the foredom next week and start getting used to it!
