All About Pocket Knives

Hey folks, still working on getting up to speed here and sorting through my not as newly inherited collection.


Any thoughts on these lockbacks?

That is a nice Gerber Ebony Folding Hunter, not to be confused with the first Folding Hunters made by Gerber in Portland Oregon. They were available in three sizes circa 1981 – 1983. It appears that you have the largest version. The other two knives had a smaller front bolster and no rear bolster and a mid lock instead of a rear lock.
An excellent example!


The Bicentennial series appears to be the ones made by Schrade.
They are nice collectibles however, they are not lockbacks.

As I was just scrolling by I looked at them and said "those aren't lockbacks! Sorry!



I must have blocked that out when I decided I could not open the clear bags/inner packaging. Should have said folders!

The literature with it lists a print date in '83, so it should be a late model.

Any knowledge on the steel for the Gerber blade?


The Browning feels nice in the hand.

May give the Case to a friend who was a diver, has the same shark as a tattoo on his leg.

If I didn't know better, I would think you got into my lockback drawer.

The Case Hammerhead is from the 1970's, but I couldn't see or count the dots to know the exact year. It still has the cut out in the blade for finger control. That was removed in 1991.

I have a Browning like that, but don't know much about it.

As to the steel in that Gerber; it was imported, probably from Japan; circa 1981 to 1983.
Most of the Kershaw's being made in Japan at that time were made using AUS-8A, though a few years later they switched to AUS-6.
I imagine the steel in that Gerber is probably AUS-8A also.

There are two dots below "stainless".

Precise Big Paw(actually pretty comfortable to use).

2 large Parker retro folders.Strangely I bought these years apart and they both have the same serial #.
