My brother has a birthday coming up next week and I thought I would do something special. Well since I had to retire I just don't have the cash to buy him anything. So I thought I would I clean up an old TL-29 from the Vietnam Era. He was in the Navy serving as a Hull Tech/Fire Fighter on the U.S.S. Jason. He is fond of telling me that the Jolly J was one of the most decorated ships in the Navy!

While he was never issued a TL-29, he was issued a Camillus Marlin Spike, he has thought the TL-29's were cool because of the screwdriver. He had never owned one so I cleaned up one for him with the forward mounted bail dating it 1976 or earlier. He went into the Navy in 1974.

I used some interior cut deer antler. I love the texture. I used potassium permanganate to add color. I had cut up two TL's so I have another one to mod.

Its going to be a Barlow hafted with scales made from recycled oak barrel staves. With the tons of pics I have, I plan on doing a how to. Pointing out what I have learned here about repairing pocket knives. Mistakes made and lessons learned. With the Barlow still a ways to go it may be a bit before anything gets posted so I thought I show this TL and show off my brother's new cool pocket knife.
