All About Pocket Knives

Hey all,

I have in the past displayed my knives in cases that were not "pressure" cases (the lids did not press the knives into a foam backing.) I recently purchased a couple of cases that do this, I'm not sure it's a good idea.

I like the fact that you can wall hang them, or put them vertically on a desk top, but, with the larger knives like the Trappers and Mountain Men it seems to put a great deal of pressure on them.

Over time can this damage handle material?

Has anyone experienced trouble with this type of case?

i have had no problems with mine.

.....I had the same concerns, as you mentioned Gary. However, I have used this one for almost 5 years, rotating some knives in and out, and have not noticed any ill effects at all.
So, I guess that's not Gospel, as it were, but so far...so good.

I want to add that I wouldn't personally store any celluloid knives in this manner. Too risky for me. JMO.

Here's a Question about these Display Cases. Who makes the best

ones and where is the best place (price wise) to buy them?

Hey Mitch, I got most of mine off eBay. They are aluminum cases with glass tops, I used these when I went to shows I just store knives in them now.
The latest ones I got (wood) were from Bill Horn @ CKW, and A.G. Russell. I only have 3 of these and they are the ones I was questioning.

I guess its trial and error.

I would say that if you are handy with tools to make one, they are not hard. I'll be making 7 before Christmas I hope.

(I was able to spend 2 hours in the shop yesterday a little sore so, not today). I'll be making mine from maple and so far it looks like they want to keep it natural, the knives inside will be with walnut.

Thank you. You know, there are 5 Cripple Creeks in that picture...and the Barlow is one of the Colonial/Russell's from 1998.

Here is a photo of one of five I have. I display my office knife collection in mine and have had no ill effects.
I get them from dmdisplays on Ebay. His are reasonably priced and shipping is reasonable enough.
