Why is the knife pattern called a "Rail Splitter"?

They surely can't be used for splitting rails of any sort....so why are they called such?

i think it's because it's a beefy pattern and strong feeling. romantic marketing? i have a couple and they would make great work knives.

"Rail splitter" can be a generic term for a laborer.
Maybe that's it? A rail splitter is a knife a person who does heavy manual labor might use?

I don't know Dew, but those S&M's are damn fine looking knives! The stag is exceptional with the Crimson bone running a very close 2nd!
