All About Pocket Knives

I just recently acquired theses two vintage Valley Forge Jacks. The first is a large 4.5 inch closed English style Jack and the smaller one 3.5 inches closed is a dog leg Jack. Both have three line primary blade tang addresses Valley Forge/Cutlery Co./Newark, N. J. The secondary blade tangs also have three line addresses Valley/Forge/Cutlery Co. Both are absent the VF in a circle on back of primary blade tang indicating supposedly production before 1916. In 1916 Boker started adding the VF in a circle to the back of primary blade tangs on all production folders. Both folders are in excellent condition with great W & T and outstanding F & F. The large Jack has almost full blades with little evidence of any hard or prolonged use. The smaller Jack has completely full blades and looks to be unshadpened since production. Thanks for looking. Two more beautiful knives, Lloyd! Both great, but the smaller one is really special, beautiful bone, round end bar shield and the grooved bolster. Levine designates that pattern as a Eureka jack.

I really like that small one. My favorite pocket knives for length
is around 3.5 inches. Not too heavy in your pocket but long enough
blades to do cutting/slicing,

Those are two of the finest old jacks I've seen lately. Makes my mouth water. Do you mind telling us where you found them?

The Eureka Jack is so 'perfect' in design. It's 100 years old and all of us are still in awe of it. Valley Forge made a stunningly beautiful example here and thank goodness for the careful collectors who have kept it pristine. I might just trade any knife i have for this Eureka that's how much i like it !

Jerry I won these from the same seller on EBay. The seller said these came out of a many decades old collection from Louisville KY. Joe thanks for the high compliment on the Eureka Jack--thanks also for the kind offer but I think I want to hang on to this example and it will be a permanent member my of my collection! Great looking knives, straight out of Newark, NJ. I'm always hoping Case will bring their -40 dogleg out of retirement, but so far it rarely happens. Great finds!
