All About Pocket Knives

This is a very crude (not to scale, lever not placed that far forward now that i think about it) example of the pocket knife i once had, when closed you could use the lever to flip it out.

Also, when you shook it vertically down it would flip out, i dont know if this is due to loosening of the bolts, i cant recall the handle being loose (i found the knife).

Is there a special name for this kind of knife(referring to the ability to flip out so easily and or the lever placement/style), or a special name for the lever?

Looks like what is often referred to as a "Flipper" style of one hand opening knife. Many are now producing some form of the style. IIRC, custom maker Kit Carson was one of the first to use the "Flipper" in some of his knives. Similar are now sold by CRKT as a collaboration under his name.

Below is a CRKT Lightfoot (designer of this style) I have. While not exact to your drawing, at least you can see the same principal. I borrowed this picture...

I dont see the same principal, is that shark fin-esque protrusion coming from the blade or the handle? im assuming that your blade is just easy to flip out because i dont see a groove in the handle for the lever... or maybe im missing something here

Edit: i just looked up the CRKT Lightfoot and read that it has a thumb stud, couldnt really see it in the picture you posted

But is it really easy to flip out without the stud?

2nd edit: after seeing the desert version of the CRTK lightfoot i can see that the "Mako Flipper" is coming from the blade, god next time i need to read the whole product description

On your original drawing, the bottom flipper is drawn too far out...actually would be in the serrations on the edge. That's why they looked a mite different. Glad you found the closed picture, as it does help explain the action better than my one picture. Sorry for the confusion.

I dont think its discontinued, stores im checking out have them in stock, maybe they just dont sell many, but i doubt that because its a nice looking peice.

i did state that the flipper was too far out "(not to scale, lever not placed that far forward now that i think about it)" im pretty sure i added that before anyone saw it. its been like a year since i last seen the knife so my perception was a bit off and didnt feel like editing it once i got a fresh look at it when i posted it

and the blade i had wasnt serrated at all, i just used that picture because the knife wasnt black

ill make and upload a revised edition of "The Lost Knife" when i feel like it lol
