All About Pocket Knives

I started seeing the name "Sheffield" a while back on the folding, retractable box (utility) knives. Lowe's usually has em. I figure they're made in china... I have 3,4 and they work well. Started noticing other Sheffield knives here and there. Can someone tell me a little history about the name "Sheffield"? Is, or was there a well known steel mill in Sheffield England that made knives and/or tools? Some of you well known historians post us a crash course on this.

It is a cutlery manifacturing region in Great Britan that was famous for it's cutlery for over 200 years.

Many of the cutlers who came to the USA in the late 1800s & early 1900s came from Sheffield.

There are many famous companies who called it home. Most any book with a section on cutlery history should have a lot of info on Sheffield knives.
