All About Pocket Knives

Hello good people! What kind of tricks do you guys have to better see a tang stamp on an old pocket knife with bone handles? To top it off the name(?) has a simple arrow over it, sorta like this. >----I> But the tail end is a bit more filled in, and underneath it is USA. Any clues as to the name or its maker?

Take as clear (steady and in focus) of a digital image as you can, enlarge it on your computer, and have a look-see. Or post said image here for the forum at large to have a gander at. Either way, take a picture, we like pictures!

I try taking high quality photos and then play with enhancing the image. Try viewing it as a negative image or as an inverted image. Try increasing and decreasing contrast too. Here are a couple of photos to illustrate what I am talking about; they are not real good examples because he stamp is not hard to read. Sometimes playing with the photo helps me, but it cannot bring back something that no longer exists.

Is the arrow through the name ? If so , it is probably a Voos , U S A .

Romo had an arrow at the top of the stamp.

I have a Wade & Butcher that features the arrow almost exactly as described above.

I don't believe it's Voos or Romo. Here are a couple of photos. The arrow is on/across the name which looks like _yers with what appears to be maybe a Z in front? I don't know for sure. Not sure if it's worth me buying it as it's in rough shape. Notice the top pin. Don't know what that is on and around it. Note: I rotated the photo to show upright a couple of times and reposted but it still came out upside down.

That looks like a Voos I had, same pattern and same bone handles.

I'm sure that it is a Voos although it is very difficult to read . The style and handle color of the knife are identical to several of these that I have owned in the past . The value of the knife in this condition is in the $5 - $15 range .

Agree with all above that it is a Voos... Classic Voos jack and I have yet to see a different jack knife pattern from them - this knife with the jigged bone handles in a barehead regular jack style seems to be the only bigger knife pattern they made... on the other hand Voos made alot of different FOB knives and some small pen knives in their years of production. Definitely your knife has the same Voos stamp as well though it is light in agreement with others thoughts....

I see something ending with yers but I'll take you guys word for it. It's up for sale on eBay with 2hours and 35 minutes and counting. $11.00 + $4.00 shipping. Hit it with #2 pencil.....then place a piece of masking tape on, then remove.....see if that helps....

Felix if the tang has rust on it use a# 2 lead pencil to remove it . Might help you to see the stamp better.

Thanks Scott & Greg for the #2 pencil suggestions. It works wonders, don't it? Sorta like duct tape for knives - the old pencil trick is the all purpose solution for them. Was wondering if it would surface for this type of situation. I didn't get the knife after all. I decided against bidding on it because of its overall condition but wasn't going over $15 total to begin with. It ending up selling for $16.52 + $4.00 shipping.

I'll keep your suggestions in mind for other old classics in my future. Thank again
