All About Pocket Knives

I have a good friend in California who has me looking for a Case "Yellowjacket". He says that it's a Trapper style, only both blades lock. I don't know it they're liner locks or lockbacks. I'm not quite sure what he's talking about, but I'm sure someone here does. So....if any of you can pass on any info on this, I'd be most appreciative.

Hey,Dew.are you sure that he said Case?..I don't recall ever seeing a Case dual lock Trapper....Camilus makes the yellow jackets but not a dual lock that I know of.

Duh..... Yep....It was a Camillus, not a Case. But, I'm sure he said both blades did indeed lock. And, he said it was called a "Yellowjacket". Now, whether he knew the stinky stuff from Shinola, I'm not sure. He said a good friend of his came by last week and had one, and now he constantly has dreams of owning one of them! So, he put me on the hunt for him. Moore Maker, eh? How many bones are we talking for one of those?

Camillus made a yellowjacket double lock back. I have seen 3 on ebay in the past.

Camillus made that MooreMaker.

The Camillus series will be hard to find, as they seemed to be phasing them out before they went out of business.

I believe the 2 or 3 I've seen on ebay were the Copperhead. Actually they were all from silverladdie, Jim Parker. If I remember, they went in the $70+ range.

I found one in Umitilla, Fla. from a company called "Cowboy Knife Sales" for $68 plus shipping. It's a Moore Maker, but they were made by Camillus for Moore Maker, eh? It comes with a really nice, high quality holster/sheath, too. Nice looking knife. I called my friend and described it....and he said "Buy it!" So, as they say...."The check's in the mail", or in this case, the Money order.

I have one of these. It is one big knife. I tried carrying it a few time and it was just too much (for me). I keep it in my hunting pack. It skinned a doe last year.

Hey,Wildcat,how would you compare it to a GEC?

I don't have one so i can not tell you. the thing i like best about the moore maker over the others is the deep belly of the spey blade. That curve just make skinnin a pleasure. I don't care for the double lock back though. I think a standard slippy would be better. But then again, i still would not be happy, i would have to have both.

The spey blade is what impresses me also...Yeah,I gotta get one!!!

Since MooreMaker came up in the discussion, I was pretty sure he assembled his knives from Camillus parts. I wonder what he is using now. Anybody know??

They let you shoot does? They don't in California, in "A" zone at least. Man, all you would get is a big fine and some "free room and board". It's got to be a fork or better here. They should allow a limited doe hunt in some areas because the buck to doe ratio is so out of whack. I live in the "A" zone, I don't ever remember seeing a doe hunt in this zone for the last 35 years.
"A" zone is a big zone, bigger than some states, but some areas do need to be thinned out for sure.

I think I heard it could be Bear was gonna take it over. But don't quote me on that.

I remember when I lived in California as a younger Wolf(e)...why heck, we had to just chase those does 'til they got tired and just laid down and quit.

heck, in the Great State of Texas, durn near anything that is breathin an walkin is fair game. Some counties only let you shoot one buck and it hasta have fancy horns.

In my county, we get 2 of each. plus we got pork runnin everywhere tearin up the woods. Alot of times they are just buzzard feed though.

He didn't assemble them, Camillus produced them for him. He is now going to Bear made knives for his economy line.

I just had to go up a couple of weeks ago on my Camillus made double lockbacks due to sourcing. Moore hasn't had them in stock for some time. If you can find the large model cheaper that $70 you should grab a hold of it.

Mike, If I'd know you had them, I'd have paid the few extra bucks and bought it from you instead of someone else. I'll remember next time. By the way, do you know of anyone who makes a double lockback in stag or jigged bone? I buy a lot of knives for an elderly friend of mine who lives in California. He isn't computer literate and has no intentions of becoming so....so, he has me constantly on the hunt for him. He's just about filled his sack with all the Remington's he has been collecting, now he's after stag handled trappers and the like. I'm going to send him photos of the GEC Burnt Stag trapper and see it that pitches his tent or not. If it does, I'll be in touch.

By the way, do you have any idea if GEC has any intentions of producing a pearl handled trapper?

No problems; matter of fact I think given that everything else is equal people should buy knives at the most economical source. I always appreciate my customers that give me a chance to match a price; but I can't always do it. But my whole objective is to never lose a sale to price.

Don't know about the pearl; but given the dealer cost on the last stag I am not sure I want them to

Don't guess I can recall another double lockback either, but let me think on it a little.
