Camillus brand.

I heard somewhere that stainless steel had a less than stellar reputation as a knife blade material in its early days. Queen advertised their knives as "Queen Steel" rather than stainless for some time, for example, in order to avoid the stigma associated with the material.

It may be that Camillus didn't want to have their name associated with the material and therefore used the brand "Stainless Cutlery" as a means of entering the market. Of course, this is merely speculation, however, it is true that Stainless Cutlery was a brand name used by Camillus for knives made prior to WWII.

Goins says that Camillus used this stamping on stainless knives from 1924 to 1940.
