All About Pocket Knives

My brother gave me this knife over the weekend. I can just make out NG on the tang so I'm guessing it was mad by H G LONG. I can’t make out anything else on the blade or tang.
I thought I may see a W/|\D but no that’s not there either.
As you can see it has got stag scales and at some stage someone has carved BD into the scale (just out of interest that’s my brother’s initials but he said they were on the knife when he acquired it) and the carving was done some time ago I would say.
Its 81/4” long when open and 4 3/4” closed the marlin spike is 3 1/4” long and there are no marks on there either.
My research indicates it’s an admiralty 301.

I have zero desire to carve my initials into any of my stag knives....wonder if it left the factory wearing that? Sorta odd clothes for a sailor knife

May be the soldier had lost or had a knife stollen in the past and put his initials on the scales so's that he would be able to recognise it if it got lost or borrowed, who knows? These older knives have a lot of history locked up in there lives. I have an earlier one with the sailors service number so the MOD marked some from new.

My kind of knife

Nice example of the Admiralty pattern 301. This was a the standard British Navy knife from 1910 to the 1930s. Later versions had metal alloy scales. The W/I\ D, War Department mark was found on Army Knives so would not appear on this knife.

Snagged this one off Ebay for $50 awhile back tip is broke otherwise pretty good knife

You got a great deal

I picked these up recently at an auction, not got around to cleaning yet just oiled them.
The first on is an unusual Turner 301 without any bolsters.
The second is a nice stag H.G. Long.
The third one is a bit earlier I believe. It’s a Brookes and Crookes with a nice horn handle and W/I\D4 stamped on the blade.
