All About Pocket Knives

I have an old XX era 5254 trapper. Somehow the top handle pin (closest to the blades) has become loose over the years, creating a noticeable movement in the rear stag handle. My question is..What is the best way to re-tighten that one handle pin without taking the knife apart? The knife is a toter. Thanks for any advise in advance.

You could try to gently repeen the loose pin with a shim under the lner a punch and small hammer. There is a danger of cracking that old stag though so I would seek the advice of one of our mechanics on the thread named knfe restoration and repair. Whatever you do, do it very gently.

I have found that trying to peen the existing pin doesn't usually work all the time.

The method in the link is a decent way to tighten the pin.

Sometimes, if the pin is still in there but the cover is loose, I will just use some CA or zap-a-gap to glue up the cover so it doesn't move around.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Upon further reflection, I think I'm going to go with trying to get some glue under the cover. I sure would hate to accidently crack that beauriful old stag.
