All About Pocket Knives

I won this recently , It's a little
Rough around the edges , it's no beauty queen.
However , it has has 1/2 stops. The main blade is weaker than the nail breaker small blade.
What do you think??

I think she's in mighty fine shape for the shape she's in. Blades are nearly full, what's not to like.

Yeah, Hak that's a goodun. I would shine that up alittle bit and tote her around.

I like it alot, Hak. Do what Gary said. Clean, sharpen, carry.

I'm after it with 1000 grit and spit.....
How else do I shine it up?

Any way to date it close or approximately?

Need a Robeson expert for the date Hak but if those are composition handles you can finish them with 2000 grit then 2500 grit and really get that slick black handle look back, very classy IMHO.

Ebony I think

I can't see any grain in the handles from the pictures so I thought it was composition . Usually that old growth ebony will show some wood grain or even very tight cracks even in good condition. If it's ebony clean it with a damp cloth, let it dry and give it a tung oil coating.

Nice, honest old Robeson jack, probably from the teens, 20's or 30's.

You will not be able to polish those handles to shiny black, and they never were shiny.

I think that is an early form of a micarta like material and there is a fibre matrix involved. I do not recommend any abrasives on those handles.

This is what the handles looked like when new, I think.

Charlie that is quite interesting. I was not awareof micarta hadlees that early.
