I'm no help but you helped me! I just found out what you were asking about . Always learning something on AAPK. As an owner of an 1892 32-20, I should have known about such an item, now I do! The old timers used to fold a piece of white paper into the open receivers of the lever guns and peer down the bore from the muzzle end, a precursor of the bore light I suppose.
Those little devices seem to be pretty scarce and those that have them think highly of them.

I'm with TF I'd never heard if one if those either before this. But I have used that paper trick a time or three.

They cost $.25 new. They came to the distributor in a case of 5. I have a friend that has original box full. It's hard to know the value of them because they don't sell very often. The mirror often times is black and discolored and it doesn't work.

Wow, I was surprised at what the 1892 bore reflector sells for today! Different sites I checked they sold from $155 to $295 and your friend has an original box full of 'em . Would there be any way to know how many were manufactured? Wonder how many are around that people don't even know what they have? Another item to look for at the junk stores and flea markets .

I got on the internet. Googled antique Winchester stores. Got the phone numbers of all the big small medium stores. Have called them. Only one guy in Wyoming even knew what I was talking about. I think the ones that are out there are in collections that we won't see till there kids sell them. I'm into the rare, hard to find, "what is that" kind of pieces.

Well. I got a bore reflector. Somebody made me pay dearly for it. When I receive it I'll post pictures of it in my 73.

I finally found a bore reflector. I have it in my 1873 32-20. Fits perfectly and I can see the bore amazingly well

......first one of those I've ever seen!!!.....I always used a piece of index card and a mag-lite!!.............. ................

I'm sure you way is a lot cheaper and works just as good.

Glad you got your Winchester 1892 Bore Reflector !
Since you 1st posted about them, I've been looking through some reference material and also the internet to see if there is a written history about the 1892 bore reflector, no luck . My main question is, why is it called by that number (1892), was it 1st made as an accessory to the Win. 1892 rifles or is it just coincidental? Seems they wouldn't use the same number unless it was made specifically for the 1892 rifle.
I did see a bore reflector for the model 90 and '06 22 pumps, it didn't give a model number.
While looking, I also found an original butt stock for a 1895 that I could use, but not at the price being asked, I'm just a tightwad .

It came out on 92 but they made it so it would fit anything they had made up till then. It also fits into my Henry. I didn't take a picture of it but there is a grooved wooden block in the back that the breachbolt actually slides into. I get home I'll take more pictures

Interesting thread, thanks for posting. We have a Winchester 1892 in .32 WCF that belonged to my great-grandfather. I'll have to take some pictures of it the next time I'm at the farm, which will be in a couple weekends.

I love the old cowboy guns. Interested to see what you have.
