here's a guy selling chinese knives with old america as the name. says most of his knives are made in china. free shipping. further down in his q&a section of his listing, he refers the potential buyer to check out his ebay review. the review is titled "beware of knives made in china" totally blasts chinese knives. go figure. on one hand he says they're great and the other says they are junk.

Virtually everything he sells is made in China. US Classics, Rough Rider, Owl Head, he also sells Chinese knives in lots. Also look in the newest issue of Knife World, August issue on page 38 of the classifieds. I do believe that's the same guy. gyocom1 under the Bill Hope Military Collectables ad.

Hey Iam waiting for a Chinese knife brand called "MADE IN AMERICA

KNIVES". Of course it will have this Bar Code on the box.

Rite Edge USA, according to the seller is the brand name. Of Course it is made in china, with all the (lack of) quality you would expect.

The first knife had such a weak spring that it wouldn't close all the way. I sent it back to him (& I paid the shipping).

This is the response I got from him on July 1st:
"hello , you will sure get it + 1 .We have not got any email before this ..after yours I checked them all and hade 6 the same way sent them back to the maker and the new ones just came in 6-29..Yours is ready to go out ,I did add a knife in extra we had made due to the BS..hope you like it..I would have emailed but we get 100's of email every day and you can get lost in there..thank you should be there this week and very sorry you hade to send it back.that is very rare for us..."

The replacement he sent had such a poorly crinked hawkbill blade that it digs into the liner when you try to close it. You have to push the blade over by hand to get it to close.

I sent him 5 emails explaining the problem with the new knife.

Finally I get a response:
"hello, hope its all good now..thank you"

I sent another email saying, "No, all is not good." Then I again explained the problem for the 6th time.

Today I was fed up. I reported it to ebay & sent him an email telling him that I will leave negative feedback if I do not get some satisfaction.

Here was his reply today:
"WE WAS NICE EVEN SENT 2 KNIVES for replacement ..Get a life you have boken 3 knives for 6.99 cost us 30.00,The last 2 knives we sent was 100% ok we check them out..YOU GIVE EBAY A BAD NAME.GO TO Walmart."

Apparently I am to blame for one of his other knives that he said he found that had the same problem in his stock.

So Mitch, It may not be "MADE IN AMERICA" brand, but "RITE EDGE USA" is pretty close.

At least he didn't try & blame me for his poor command of the English language.

Here is one that is close to what Mitch suggested: AMERICAN CUTLERY. Made you know where and sold frequently as being from Memphis, Tn. when in truth, the parent company is from Memphis.

This gyocom guy also sells a brand called "US Classics" of all things! They say "Salt River, Kentucky" on the tang. (Sheez....please don't ask me how I know! ) He claims only 1,200 of each were made, so the prices will "go up, up, up!". BS....if they could sell a million of them, that's how many they'll make. Period. 1,200 my a$$! So, the Old America Company says "oil the joints" eh? What does that mean....I'm a dummy and have to be reminded....or the joints are so rough they need oil?

Man oh man. It seems as if many of the old, established American companies are going to China to have their wares made. Remington, Schrade....and how many other once proud American companies have "jumped ship"?

I don't know about Remington, but in the case of Schrade, the company went broke.
Mr Stewart Taylor, purveyor of many former American brands now made in China (such as Winchester), bought the rights to the Schrade name & intellectual property, and now has them produced in China.

I am sure the men & women who worked at Schrade would love to have their jobs back.

This isn't a modern phenomenon. More that 100 years ago, the U.S. Knife Company imported knives made in Germany for sale in the USA. s-k

hey s-k. is that a cheap german import? is it as good as a rough rider? beautiful little pearl.

Could it be a Bruckmann ? Does it have sunken joints, or jimped liners ? It's a pretty little knife.

Just think, it's been from Europe to N. America, and back to Europe... maybe it qualifies for "Frequent Flyer" miles ?

Through out history there have been men & women to whom the dollar was the most important thing. No sense of pride, nor ethic nor concern for their countrymen will cause them to forgo the "easy buck."

I applaud the efforts of the visionaries from Canal Street & GEC. Men & women who still believe that America can make a better product that can be competitive in the market place.

Not a knife company, but "Ohio Forge" pipe wrenches are made in China.

Another one that's somewhat misleading is a knife I recently bought. On the main blade, it reads "Parker Brothers" over "Chattanoga, Tenn."....yet on the back of the blade, it says "Surgical Steel" over "Japan" Now, I really like Parker knives, even the Japanese ones, but I find the Chattanoga, Tennessee bit rather uncalled for.
