All About Pocket Knives

I have a very nice Buck(script)/500/U.S.A. with what looks like stainless liners, pins and bolsters. Handles look like a burgandy Micarta. Can you tell the year any more specifically than before 1986 ? And Micarta handles are not the usual Buck handle material. Was this a special run ?
I also have a Buck 825, 1886-1986 commemorating the Statue of Liberty. The back tang has a serial # ? 040650
Are the handles made from metal removed from S of L ? They are rather thick handles. And was this a serialized offering ?
I am trying to upgrade my Buck knowledge for the few Buck knives i have.

According to an article by Larry Oden in a BCCI newsletter, the first 500s, which were introduced in late 1978, had burgundy micarta handles. In about 1980 the handle material changed to impregnated birch. I hope this helps a little.
