All About Pocket Knives

I picked it up at a yard sale last weekend for .50 cents. In very good condition and as you can see in the closeup, the inscription reads "Wilh. Herr" and the triangular logo above reads "W'" over 1901.

Anyone ever heard of this maker?

Great little knife. I would call it a coffin-handled gentleman's knife. Not familiar with the maker but will see if i can find something for you. s-k

wilhelm herr might be the name of a recipiant or a business. does the tang have anything?

On the pen blade it says "Rostfrei" ( which I understand is German for "rust free"....or in otherwords, stainless steel) and on the nail file blade it only has the capital letter "R".

Thanks SK....it might be interesting to know some of the knife's heritage.

can't find "r" by itself in any book. with no country of origin and rostfrei on the tang, i would guess german not for export.

Thanks for the info Johnny. I realize it probably isn't worth much more than I paid for it....but, still....it's A KNIFE!

I'm pretty sure the "R" stands for rostfrei as well...usually used on small tangs, like that file. I've had some of the small Bulldog pen knives marked like that.

I think you did great on that knife. It looks pretty clean. Or, as we used to say about cars..."Sano."
