How many 6318 patterns?
I picked up a nice 6318HP today. In my collection I also have a 6318PU which is quite a bit different. In addition to having a standard clip blade(versus the California clip on the PU)it has sheepfoot and spey secondary blades whereas the PU has a spey and an awl. Also the spey blades have nail marks opposite each other.Th HP is red bone and a XX stamping(non-USA) whereas the PU has the regular XX USA stamping and darker red bone scales.
I'm not really an avid Case collector so I don't know all the little nuances associated with them. Just curious as to whether there are other variations(with different letter suffixes).

Re: How many 6318 patterns?
pattern is a 3 1/2″ serpentine style multi-bladed knife that is one of many that are referred to as premium stock knives or stockman knives. This particular pattern is often referred to as a medium, or junior stockman because of its size in relation to other stockman knives. The blade combination used in this frame has been numerous. The master blade is almost always a clip blade, while the others are usually a sheepfoot and a spey. The pattern has also been produced with a pen and/or punch blade in various combinations. I have also seen this knife with two clip blades extending from opposite ends. Knives of this nature are often known as small or mini muskrats. The 18 pattern is roughly the same size as the 32 pattern stockman, but its bolsters are rounded rather than squared. It looks very similar to the 27, 87, and 47 pattern stockman knives, but is larger than the 27 and 87, but smaller than the 47. These knives were introduced sometime prior to 1940 and to my knowledge have been manufactured every year since.More about Stockman knives | Search The AAPK Club Member stores for Stockman Knives

K7k i have an early 70's 6318pu with the same configuration and I believe the 5318hp in my 79 stag set also has the same blade configuration as your hp. I can't recall seeing one with a pen blade but apparently they are out there.

Re: How many 6318 patterns?
As far as I know, like Greg said the 18 pattern always has a clip master blade. They've been made with both California clip and standard clip masters. At least I've never seen one that didn't have one or the other. Secondary blade combinations are sheepfoot and spay, sheepfoot and pen, or spay and punch.
From the combinations of blades to the wide array of handle materials offered I'd guess that over the years the 18 pattern has been one of Case's most popular.

The HP and the PU are second letters in the secondary Blades. H=sheepfoot P=spay. P=spay u=punch. This might be
