All About Pocket Knives

Here's an honest old knife that I had never heard of. Just had to have the stamp. Still a solid knife. 3 15/16"

Classic old cattle knife Joe ... guess Hacket Gates - Hurty Co was a hardware store out in St Paul MN (wonder who made their knives for them - I read Boker did some if I am not mistaken)... Celluloid was a popular scale for the old cattle knives (my Empire-made Shapleigh cattle knife as you know also had celluloid) - guess they thought that it was more durable as a handle ...

They are a little more common around here (no surprise there). I have 5 of them and one , which I'll post a picture of when I have time to dig it out, is a near mint large pearl I picked up foe almost nothing at an antique sale. Still they are a rare stamping, espically away from Mn. ___Dave

Just a thought where the company is from Minnesota; possibly made by Aerial?

I've seen a lot of Aerials in celluloid, but none in green swirl. They did mostly clear with pictures or solid colors and I don't know if they did much, if any contract work. As far as I know, they aren't known for that.___Dave

I found 4 out of the 5. The ebony is marked Hacket Walter Gates Hwdr. and is deep etched or stamped on the M. blade with the Co. logo, the 2 pc pearl is a mint Hacket Gates and Hurley Co. with an etched "All Right Hacket" on the master blade. The pearl stockman is a Hacket Walter Gates Hwdr. and the small pearl with the broken blade is a C.W. Hacket Hwdr. Co. It has a bar shield but I see now I photographed it up-side down. The mint one cost me a whopping $15. I have another small ebony somewhere in another safe.___Dave

I don't have any idea who may have made them. They almost appear German, at least the pearls, but their date of manufacturer would dictate a country of origin if I understand it all correctly. All I know is the Hacket, Gates and Hurley is the newest stamping of the three I know of. ___Dave

Been spending the day cleaning the pile. Love it when I find one I forgot I had - almost like getting a new prize! Here's a Hackett, Gates - Hurty Co sleeveboard whittler with French Ivory covers. All blades stamped, tight and snaps like a gator.
Wish I knew who made it. Forgot I had it, can't remember where, when or how I acquired it. But hey, it's a whittler!

I think those are from a Hardware store up in Dave and JP's neighborhood. Don't know who made them. Here are pics of mine.
