All About Pocket Knives

I scored this MiniChamp II with no scales and the ends looking as thought they had been used as a hammer on the pointy end of a nail!
Unfortunately the before pic doesn't show the liners abuse.....

I worked the liners back into close original condition with needlenose pliers and mini files (compliments of my friend Orvet) and end up with my new EDC. It's a 5 layer and holds the record for most tools in a 58 mm VIC SAK.

What did you use for the new scales?

A great part of this hobby knife collecting is restoring an
old knife. Anyone can lay down money to buy a new knife
or an old one that is in mint condition.

Another great part that we all know is sharing, sometimes with
pictures.

Nice job! I'm a stickler for plain old solid red handles on SAKs, but translucent ruby looks much better. I've got one as well, and with a tiny weight and several functions--it's probably the best SAK that was ever made. As long as I pair it up with a folder with a larger blade, I'm just as well prepared as I would be with a heavy large Swiss Army Knife (my heaviest being the Craftsman model) or Leatherman.

I too wonder how the heck that happened. I drop my SAKs all the time, which results in a ton of cracked scales I'll have to replace, but never anything like that! Given how you describe the damage, it was either used as a hammer as you mention--or run over!

By the way--improvised I've found for two tools I thought were pretty much useless--the orange peeler/cut and picker blade (tool's original purpose was to cut security bands on pill bottles and pick the cotton out) is great for ripping into clam pack, and the cuticle pusher/pill counter blade (it, the Wharncliffe, and cut and picker blade all originated on models intended to be sold to drug companies for promo use) is a good large flat screwdriver or pry tool. It also makes a great scraper.
