All About Pocket Knives

I picked this up Friday ,any ideas on the age of it , or any other info ?
It has UNION CUTLERY & OLEAN NY under it.
Other side has KA-BAR. I believe UNION OLEAN NY was from 1911 to 1956 ?
Was there a name given to this type of knife ?
I can't tell if it's bone or stag.
Does it have blade loss ?

I searchrd eBay the first 7 pages of 290 something and stopped .I know I saw one similiar to this in this BUCK forum ,but there was no date in the post.

That doesn't look like any Buck Knife I've ever seen. In the old days Hoyt Buck would reblade a customer's knife for them using blades he made from old files - but he stamped his name, B U C K, with single letter stamps on the new blades. I don't think that is what you have there. OH
Ps There was also an early Buck Knife - the Buck 117, where Hoyt re-bladed surplus lifeboat knives with his own blade and sold them in 1946 - that may be what you are thinking of.

Someone will eventually come along with a better memory than mine... I have a couple from that era. I believe your knife dates from circa 1938. It's clearly an early KA-BAR (Union Cutlery). You can look up info about when the Olean, NY factory closed it's doors over on the Union Cutlery / KA-BAR board. I think I've posted pics of mine, in the past.

Nice old knife!... not a Buck, though.

I REALLY like this knife and sure would like to know what I've got here. wise guy seems to think watchman did good if he payed less than $400 for his. I paid $10.00 for mine.
