Is a square spring typical for a Version 3?

Here is some Buck 110 info I saved on file.

Dale has a post covering all this in this forum.

Third Version, (7 variations) Blade material 440C
Variation 1. Left hand stamped BUCK*, butt rivets, blade bushing, and spring holder integral to right hand side, blade rivet separate piece, spring inserted into spring holder. 2 brass inlay rivets, brass rocker rivet.
Variation 2. Same as variation 1 above except left hand stamped BUCK. (No dot)
Variation 3. (1967) Left hand stamped BUCK, U.S.A., butt rivets, blade bushing, and spring holder integral to right hand side, blade rivet separate piece, 2 brass inlay rivets, brass rocker rivet.
Variation 4. Same as variation 3 above except no inlay rivets.
Variation 5. Same as variation 3 above except one separate piece butt rivet, no blade bushing.
Variation 6. Same as variation 5 above except two separate piece butt rivets.
Variation 7. Same as variation 6 above except right hand stamped.

Forth Version, (2 variations) Blade material 440C
Variation 1. Forged sides, (1970), Left hand stamped BUCK, U.S.A., brass spring holder separate piece, two separate piece butt rivets, 2 brass inlay rivets, brass rocker rivet.
Variation 2. Same as variation 1 above except stainless rocker rivet.

Fifth Version, (2 variations) Blade material 440C
Variation 1. Left hand stamped BUCK, U.S.A., stainless spring holder, two separate piece butt rivets, 2 brass inlay rivets, brass rocker rivet.
Variation 2. (1972) Left hand stamped BUCK, 110, U.S.A., Stamping read with tip pointed down. Stainless rocker rivet.
Variation 3. (1972) Left hand stamped BUCK, 110, U.S.A., Stamping now read with tip pointed up. Stainless rocker rivet.

It looks like it's a Version 3, Variation 3.

I haven't seen any 3rd Versions with a square spring, but one person has told me he has a couple. The square spring certainly isn't common.

That's 440C steel, all right. And darned good 440C steel too! Nice score. That's a good hunting knife if I ever saw one.

If you could post a photo from the end of the butt bolster, that would tell whether it is a Version 3 or not. I have some Version 3s, but I don't have any V1 or V2s now. Nice condition knife, looks like the blade may have been cleaned.

The pictures with verdi gris show the knife as I found it.
I haven't done anything to the blade, whatsover. I doubt someone cleaned the blade years ago, before it was stored away and developed verdi gris.
But, who knows...?

I just couldn't believe my dumb luck to find it -& in its original soft leather, low-slung sheath!

It is a Version 3. I can't tell which Variation from the picture. Old Bucks are fun to collect but Versions 1 & 2 are really hard to find anymore. I have sold several of them, but no more. Good luck. Sorry I missed your post, I have never messed around on this site before.

Okay, I've decided to play this guessing game of which Variation of Version 3. It's sort of a dangerous game to play without seeing the actual knife, but it's fun. Here is what I see and how I narrowed my guess (in bold print).
Two-line inverted tang stamp on the left side: Variations 3 through 8
Variations 1 and 2 are one-line stamps; Variation 9 is a two-line inverted stamp on the right
Tiny inlay rivets: Variations 3, 5, 6, and 8
Variation 4 has no inlay rivets; Variation 7 has standard inlay rivets
Two butt rivets visible left and two butt rivets visible right: Variation 8
Variation 3 has two visible right and zero visible right; Variation 5 has three visible left and one visible right; Variation 6 has one visible left and one visible right
The real guessing part is the butt rivets, but I manipulated the photos and I think Variation 8 is the answer. However, I won't bet the farm on this.
