After largely ignoring Sheffield knives for years (except for HJs), I find myself drawn to their different styles, and excellent quality.
Here are two, an Eye Witness, and an IXL, that I picked up a my local Historical Arms Club monthly show today.
The Eye is a nicely propotioned curved jack, with slick black handles, a fancy bolster, and good springs and blades. A very pocketable yet sturdy knife, easy on the "eyes"!
The other is a large, yet slim IXL pen, with black horn handles, cut very flat, and beveled all the way around. I can see it sitting in a drawer for a Looooong time, because it shows no signs of use!
Not your usual American cutlery, they are very nice pieces of the cutlers art!

Are the Schrade Sheffield IXL knives all made across the pond too ?
I have some and every time I clean and look at them I wonder this.
They show Schrade I-XL Wostenholm Sheffield England on the blade.
So do you know if they were really made in England ?

A question for LT. Perhaps he knows the history, but if they are marked Sheffield, they were probably made there, Ken.

here is a link to a page from lrv ( Larry's site ) collectors of Schrades are us, It is an advert for the IXL knives, at the top of the page it mentions that they were in fact made in England.

Nice knives Upnorth. I haven't seen too many like that slim jack knife.
Ken my understanding is that the Schrade I*XL knives were made in Sheffield during the time (1977-1982) when Imperial owned what was previously the Richards-Rodgers-Wostenholm conglomerate.
