All About Pocket Knives

Start this post dedicated to WAIDBLATTS

I have my first on the way ... and after some research on it...
feel fairly good about the purchase of this one.... from what i am
finding there is 3 knives a large waidblatt with a smaller fixed blade like the puma hunters friend
and this smaller version waidblatt ,, from my research so far
these were done per order some before 1950 without pat. number
patt.# issued sometime in 1950, research so far has less than 100
where made

Is Waidblatt the name of the style of knife ? or the name of the company that made your knife ?
I have long wanted the opportunity to ask this question.

According to one of the Puma catalogs I have,the word Waidblatt translates into English as Big Knife. In the catalog there are two models;a 3584 and a 3588;the latter comes either alone or with a companion knife 3587.
Here is a picture of a knife I acquired some time ago stamped Olsen Germany. It seems to be closer in shape to your original drawing than the Pumas. If you want to see the Puma knives; check the catalog I down loaded in the section on tang stamps.

Carl Scholz, 1889 – 1959, was a civil engineer, specialized in cars and engines. As in WW1 he served as a technician at the "Jagdgeschwader Richthofen", In 1949 Scholz applied for a patent to his own ideas on an "Universal Waidblatt".

Scholz intended his Waidblatt to be usable not only for the coup de grace, but as gutting knife, cleaver and even a hammer too. Scholz had his knifes made by the knifemaker Helmut Neumann, Berlin – Neukölln. The knifes were made to order only, one at a time. So they all differ slightly in dimensions, decoration and finish. Less than 100 examples were made. Production ended at the death of Carl Scholz in 1959
