HELLO EVERYONE....Been waiting for this one to come in the mail and wanted to share it.
Cattaraugus Moose 22339,4 1/4"
Now for the question..is it odd that is doesn't have a Shield?...any Catalog Pics I've seen
always show it with a Shield.
Or did they do that because it looked more fancy with a Shield?

I know very little about Cattaraugus knives, but I know I like that one! Moose knives are just plain cool in my opinion.

According to Mrs. Dewey Ferguson's book "Romance of Collecting" It shows a shield on the knife and states in the description that it is shielded. I have a 4-1/4" Moose but a 22949 and it has a shield. Could you show a pic of the reverse side scale to see if they match.

That is good looking bone!! Does not look tampered with. I'd say you have a keeper there. Could be made in later years when they went away from all worm groove jigging. That's my opinion only.

The Catt with a shield looks to have domed pins whereas your Catt looks to have flat pins. Either Cattaraugus changed the jigging and the pins over time or your knife has been professionally re-handled are the only options i can think of.

I know what You're saying, however in the Catalog pic, the Knife Pins look fairly flat as well.
I've been meaning to start a thread about the appearance/finish of Pins and what
looks original as compared to what may be not.

Take a look at these Pins on this one, what is suppose to be an Original Knife
Although the center Pin is somewhat domed..looks like it has been flattened.peened or both..
while some Knives clearly have a domed type center Pin..

back to the subject though...I'm wondering what the newest catalog anyone knows of that
may shed some light on Knives w/o a Shield?
