All About Pocket Knives

Just finished up on this skinner with Walrus cheek bone scales, black liners and a tapered tang. The steel is hollow ground 52100, tempered back to 61rc. OAL length is 8", the blade is 3.75".

I really enjoyed working this bone, it was easy to sculpt and drill, it takes a nice finish and is durable as all get out. Works like butter finishes like steel. I'll make a blond (natural colored) sheath to compliment this knife.

Gmusic, love the skinner and the walrus jaw scales, I think you and I have a lot of the same interests! I grew up butchering hogs and beef on our farm and know a little about skinning knives. I have never used the walrus bone however but have used a lot of weird stuff. I send a photo along of a skinner I made a good friend a while back and the handle is made from really old buffalo horn core. It's off of a partial skull he picked on his ranch and it probably is 100-200 yr old skull. It was full of gravel and dirt and a little hard on band saw blades! Don't think I will do another one! Blade steel was O-1. I have also used whale bone that I dyed and stabilized with super glue. It turned out a lot like giraffe bone. Again good job! Terry

Terry, that's a fine looking skinner there! True enough.......until you have skinned an animal with a real skinner and not just a camp or a bushcraft knife, you don't know what your missing. It's kinda like trying to field a ball with a catchers mitt, you can do it........but there's a better way.
