USA Army Knife?

I acquired this knife recently. It is marked Camillus, Cutlery Co, Camillus NY and perhaps USA but can't see it on the last line. A nicely built knife... excellent bone handles and good snap. Looks like it was roughly cleaned some time ago as the blade/attachments are quite scratched. I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm or refute this as a WWII army knife please. Thanks in advance.

Hello Smiling-Knife

,
One of my favorite patterns.......Yes, it is a "Army" knife. Should have what they/some call a 4-Line tang stamp with the USA at the bottom. They were called "Engineer's Pocket Knife" back in the day. Camillus made the most, some are just stamped " Made In USA"
Nice knife, I would just leave it as is. Well, maybe oil the joints etc.
Take care,

The USA on the shield isn't United States of America, it stands for United States Army. Camillus made these with several different shields for the various branches of the Armed Forces- USA, USMC, USN, USN MD etc.

I have two of those. The one with the USA shield has brass liners and the other with nothing on the shield has steel liners. Does any one know why? Was brass in short supply towards the end of WWII ? Just speculation here. One other thing, the bone used on these knives is very, very nice.
