All About Pocket Knives

Now and again in the AAPK store I'll see a knife listed as coming with the box, the warranty, and the sach (or sometimes I think it is spelled sache). What's a sach? From the context it sounds like it might be the thin paper that some knives are wrapped in. Or maybe it's a bastardization of "sack", the thin cotton pouch that's sometimes included.

Googling around I don't find any definition for the word, except maybe the German word "sache" which can mean a "thing." Sort of like saying "The knife comes with the box, the warranty paper, and that other thing." Also, the Forum search feature only turns up the word twice, neither of which sheds any light on the definition. OK guys, what's a sach?

Dennis, that's a good question. I just saw that recently and not knowing what it was just ignored it. Now you've piqued my curiosity. I look forward to the answer.

If it's in a AAPk store, send an email to the store owner and ask. I've found AAPK store owners to be a pretty congenial lot (most are also AAPK members) so the owner would likely explain it. And if it's a mistake, would probably be happy to know about it.

I thought is was short for sachet- a little bag that would hold something like

spices or pleasant smelling materials.

Maybe I am wrong?

I own only one NIB Canal Street but it has a slip cover that I assume is the sachet.

Redtrout I figured that one out from the get go. Of course I'm a Canal Street collector so I've accumulated a fair number of those little black velvety bags they come in. Several of them came from you too.

Hopefully I'll have more in the future.

Why wouldn't you just use a word that everyone understands?
The last thing I want to do as an AAPK store owner is to lose a sale because I can't go to the trouble of spelling properly or communicating clearly.
It makes no sense at all!

You also have a sweet sack of knives there. Some real beauties in that pile. Once again I feel envy growing in my innards.

One thing I have learned over the years is that the printed word can convey things that would never be taken the same in face to face conversation or even over the phone. I have bought knives from Redtrout and had numerous communications via e-mail and phone and found him to be courteous and helpful. I am 66 yrs. old and if I make it a couple more decades I'll probably call a fabric poke anything I want and spell it however I wish!
