All About Pocket Knives

At the end of July John & I did a little trading John (jmh58) and I did some trading; John sent me a Kershaw 1775 and an old Queen City jack. In trade for the Kershaw I restored his Queen City with crumbling black composition handles. John had seen pictures of some knives I had done in OD green linen micarta and wanted his Queen City to be re-handled with OD green linen micarta.

John was very gracious and patient and waited while I had a new knee installed and then again while I made another trip to the hospital. I certainly appreciate his patience!

John wanted me to post some pictures here so y’all can see them and he can get a sneak peak before the knife arrives.

Here it is John. It’s going in the mail this afternoon.

Very nice work on that Queen City Dale. Just out of curiosity, is there a "standard" thickness to pocket knife handles that most companies use, or does it depend on the chosen material?

Very nice Dale! I have two of those Queen City jacks. One is in very good shape and other has very worn scales. I like that OD green micarta. I may try the same thing with it. Going to have to wait though. I have spinal surgery in a couple weeks and a 6 week recovery. I do like the looks of that one. Both of my Queen City jacks have very good blade steel, they take and hold an edge thats hard to beat! John you are getting one fine knife from Dale Very cool

Micarta comes in various thicknesses, I have some I buy that is 2" thick, I use it for jigs. The micarta I used here is available on 1/8" sheets, which is what I used.

Sorry, I took the pics outdoors and it was overcast with a gray sky.
I had to hurry the pics as I was about 5 minutes ahead of a rain storm.

Maybe John can get a better pic when he gets it.

I wasn't being critical Dale, just commenting that what I saw didn't look like the OD I'm familiar with. I'm not good with colors anyway.

I didn't notice how blue I was until you said something. I just saw it as glare and it didn't register in my brain that it looked blue.
I would reshoot the pics but I mailed the knife to John yesterday.

Who gives a rip as long as John's happy (and I'm sure he will be). Good looking knife and a fine job by the knife mechanic.

I was wondering the same thing Jerry, even the steel is blue ,I thought it was just my ole puter or ole eyes one. That's a great knife I got one just like it only mine got ole ugly black handles on it.

That is a nice old jack. I just did another large jack I am wrapping up.
Your Queen sort of got me enthused about big jacks. Thanks for the opportunity to work on it.

LOL! I saw the title and thought, "Oh, I wonder who did that? I think I did one a year or two ago."
When I saw it was a knife I had refurbished I got a good laugh about it.

I am glad your son likes it and carries it!
Refurbishing a knife is a fair amount of work so I am delighted when I see people using a knife I have rehabbed!
