All About Pocket Knives

I found this old bowie knife in my dad's tool box.
I rehandle it with some river oak off the farm(different type of oak than wine barrels,a lot harder wool )They used the wood for stockyard rails.
I just like trying different types of timber on handles.
Also takes my mind of the farm for a while.I know it's not a terrific job but I had fun.

I think the knife is about fifty years old.I remember carrying it and could not remember what happened to it .My father had a habit of throwing things into his tool box if left laying around.

Your handle looks more functional that the original handle.
A round handle doesn't give a good grip but your flatter handle will you better control and the flaring at the end will help it not to slip out of your hand. It is a simple but fundamentally sound handle design!

Nice job! Now you understand why some of us would rather buy broken knives to fix than to buy pristine old knives; it is quite addicting!

Dale I would say it's the only knife with that wood on the handle.The wood is hard as hell and takes some sanding.It's a slow grown tree and has lots faults and will split easy.
